What is PresbyLens®?
The PresbyLens® is a microlens made of a medical grade "hydrogel" material that is similar to the material used in contact lenses.
The lens is mostly water, as is the cornea,
and has optical characteristics almost
identical to the cornea. The PresbyLens® has a thickness that is less than half the thickness of a human hair and a diameter of only 2 millimeters, about the same as a pinhead. The lens is
bioengineered to help provide nutrients
and fluid transport to the cornea and as
transparent as natural tears.
PresbyLens® Technology
The PresbyLens® is designed to improve near and
intermediate vision by creating a microscopic, but important,
change to the shape of the eye's surface.
- Only 2.0 mm in diameter, the PresbyLens® inlay is also
ultra-thin being approximately half the thickness of a sheet
of paper.
- The proprietary, bio-engineered, micro-porous, hydrogel
material is similar to that of a soft contact lens and is intended
to ensure that the PresbyLens® inlay is biocompatible with the cornea.
- The PresbyLens® inlay is inserted just under the eye's
outer surface.
- As the PresbyLens®
inlay is removable, it may be an
ideally suited surgical option for near and intermediate vision
enhancement.
